An Encouter With Black-Eyed Kids

There’s something wrong with these children.

They approach quietly, yet boldly. They’re young, usually teens or slightly younger. They insist on coming inside your house to use the bathroom, the telephone or just for a drink of water. But for some reason you’re afraid. Why? They’re just kids. Then you notice their eyes – black, as if the pupil had poured over its banks. You don’t let them in – or do you?

Black-eyed kids. The term has floated across cyberspace since Jan. 16, 1998 when journalist Brian Bethel first posted his chilling encounter with overly-lucid children whose eyes were coal black; not a hint of iris, nor white.

And they scared the hell out of him.

The existence of these children has since become an Internet urban legend, but is it really just that? Maybe not.

Below is a story of black-eyed kids from an anonymous reader of “From the Shadows.” I’ll call him “Bill.”

Bill was driving through Afton, Okla., a town in the northwestern part of the state on historic Route 66 just south of the Will Rogers Turnpike, when he stopped to see some old friends.

“I saw they had a new dog; a very stout dachshund,” Bill said. “I asked them about it and Michael said, ‘The weird kids left her when they left town.’”

Bill asked Michael and his wife about these “weird kids.” They told him a group of young people had knocked on their door and begged to come in and talk. The “weird kids” were driving an old van, but Michael thought it was in good shape because it didn't make noise.

“However, he and his wife felt uneasy and didn't let them in,” Bill said. A few of the kids left the van and walked the dachshund Michael and his wife ended up with. “But they didn’t seem too attached to (the dog).”

Bill asked Michael if these young people were Mormons.

“Hell, no,” Michael said. “They didn't dress right and they were junkies."

"Junkies?" Bill asked.

"Yeah,” Michael said. “Their pupils were huge."

The kids’ eyes were solid black. Looking into their eyes was like staring into a void.

Turned away at the door, the black-eyed kids eventually left, to the relief of Michael and his wife. Some time later, Michael saw the dachshund wandering around town, felt sorry for it, and brought it home. Michael and his wife are thankful the black-eyed kids never returned for it.

Michael’s story has disturbed Bill ever since.

“ (Jan. 18), a friend was talking about dark forces on the move and mentioned black-eyed kids,” Bill said. “I Googled it and a chill went up my spine.”

Bill contacted Michael about the information he’d found on these entities, but, like many who’ve encountered these black-eyed kids, Michael and his wife just want to forget meeting them. Their experience was terrifying.

“They don't want anything to do with an investigation,” Bill said, “or have their name made public, or really have anything to do with any further conversation about black-eyed kids.”

Do you think these are "hybrids"? And if so...of WHAT? My cousin and I were talking about them and we have a theory about them. You know how you hear stories about people just dropping dead in their homes or running of the road in their cars and being killed? Everybody always says, "Gee..we don't know what happened...he/she was fine yesterday." My cousin said, "What IF they were approached by one of these things and they let it in? Maybe these thing ARE death." That makes some sense to me.

Interesting, but possibly weak-there are, of course, full contacts that cover the cornea, and are black. Have been used in hollywood for years, and are possible to insert with the help of a friend. not a skeptic, but this one is a bit easy to explain!

Jillyann said...

Oh, Im definately not saying the black contacts thing is not a possibility. I have seen "goth kids" all decked out with fangs and "snake eyes" cintacts and black contacts. Kids LOVE the "shock" factor. We were just tossing out ideas about the POSSIBLE existence of these BEK's and speculating about what they MIGHT be IF they exist. Personally, Im a Christian and I know many people of faith discount stories of the paranormal ANYTHING because they feel it is somehow contradictory to christianity. My answer to that is...How do you figure? People are more than willing to believe in demons because they bible SAYS there are demons. They believe in the holy ghost..admittedly the "holy spirit" but they will argue a blue streak that there are no ghosts, shadow people etc. I know that the soul leaves the body and is either present with the Lord or in present with the devil. But I think EVERYTHING on this earth has an energy field. Energy is what I believe gets left behind sometimes. What do I know though...Im just speculating!

I'm going to go with "anonymous" on this one. 1998? Sounds about the time when "Limp Bizkit" and the like were were huge. Don't you remember their guitarist wearing those contacts all the time?

Pupils can be extremely big when one ingests psychedelic mushrooms. They can also become big when doing methamphetamine. Cocaine doesn't affect the eyes. Opiates makes the pupils smaller. LSD doesn't affect the eyes much either. So they were probabily on mushroom. I remember the one time I was on them, looked at myself in the mirror, and i could see no color of eyes (save a VERY small sliver of an outline of my blue iris, this was in daylight mind you, if in compplete darkness im sure the pupil might have been a tad bit bigger, effectually covering any of the iris left). Meth makes your pupils pretty big, but not as big as mushrooms...There's a lot of nifty trippers out there that wouldn't hurt a fly!

"Your True Tales" over on paranormal.about.com has a number of stories about Black-Eyed Kids (and adults.)
This is the staring link:

The stories I saw were in the 2006 to 2008 range.

I came across your blog from Google. I read about that story from the newspaper reporter who saw the "Black Eyed Kids" that one night by the theater. That freaked me out. It was very detailed and believeable...and whatever they actually are, he definitely was telling the truth about what he saw. I have never come across anything like this myself. But the one thing that really creeps me out is their behavior. I mean, yeah you might be able to explain the black eyes by saying they could have been wearing some kind of contact lenses or something. But the way they were talking and acting, it was not at all normal for kids! They just didn't sound like kids. They were acting completely out of character for kids, especially kids that young.

I mean, let's just say for sake of argument that they were wearing contact lenses and pulling some kind of prank...the fact that they were so insisting that they wanted to go with him just doesn't make any sense at all. Why would kids insist on getting in a stranger's car??

I agree that contacts might be the cause of some of these, or all of these stories. But I do not agree with drugs. I have witnessed too many people on too many drugs and in all different lighting. I have never seen the white part of the eye even slightly covered.
I had run into a friend who had overdosed on his birthday. We at first were in a club that was extremely dark. The only lighting were laser lights on the dance floor. I saw his eyes then and I saw them later as he was stumbling outside as the sun rose up. The colored part of his eyes were gone. The iris was covered in black. But still there were the white parts of his eyes.
I have mentioned that he had overdosed. Very scary time for all who were there. With as many drugs as he took that night (shrooms, LSD, meth, pot, alcohol and X were some we became aware of), I don't believe his pupils could get larger. Just to mention, I was not on anything when this happened. My memory is clear of any drug or alcohol.
Aren't the pupils suppose to dilate to shut light out (or let in) from the iris? Why would they need to get larger? It doesn't seem to serve a purpose. I just cannot imagine what, other than the contacts, could cover the white parts of the eyes.

I just heard about these on a podcast show called Paranormal podcast when Brad Steiger mentioned them.

I think I had a similar experience possible.

I get a loud knock on my door at 11:30pm while watching Eastwick of all things. I have lived in my house for 2 years and I know all my neighbors by sight, and so has my roommate who peeped out side the window and said there was a very short black man outside. We aren't racist by far, but there had been a small rash of burglaries the year before in the house adjoining us so my roomates speaks thru the door."Who is it?"
No answer for a moment, but then another loud bang-bang on the door. We both decided if he wasnt going to answer then it prob best we ignore him like a Jehovah's witness. He abngs more and my roomate and I discuss what to do in our hallway away from the door.....our cats joins us which was freaky at the moment to me. We discussed whether just to leave him banging on the door and hope he leaves or to call the cops. my roomates phone had just died mere hours later so I loaned him mine. and before he could push the first button, the banging stops. We have a screened in area you have to enter before you can knock on our door and we didn't hear the door clang when he left, but he seemed to be gone. Right we looked a t each other and said"guess he got bored and left". My guitar which hung in the garage on a hook drops and hits the ground making a thud scaring the life out of us.

since then small things have happens in our house paranormal ish, light bulbs seem to have small lives in this one lamp, my roommate seems to have dreams that come true, and my inside/outside who is mostly outside cat likes to stay in and sleep next to my door meowing at random moments of the night and then quickly stopping.

Jason, You recently posted a comment at my site: my blog and asked if I thought children ages 4 to 15 would be able to wear Sclera lenses.

I suppose they *could*, though inserting the quarter-sized contacts onto your eye is quite difficult and takes a lot of persistence to feel comfortable enough with the irritation to do so.

Possible? Yes. Likely that they would? No.

First off, I don't think the accounts are fake (except maybe some, from people who think it's a load of rubbish and want to perpetuate the myth perhaps), as those people who have encountered these beings have NOT wanted any names known or notoriety and have wanted to forget about it. Compare this to those who've gave false accounts of phenomena that has been shown not be true (or at least, their accounts of it have been shown not to be true).

Now here's what I think (it's not stolen and pasted, it's what I PERSONALLY posted on Yahoo so don't go claiming I'm stealing material - I'm just copying and pasting (and slightly editing) MY OWN MATERIAL):

I think they may be very low entities undergoing some sort of test set by a higher entitity. I think they have to prove that they can MAKE someone invite them in somewhere, which is why they get shocked or angry when someone refuses, as it means they won't pass the test.

As for entities needing to be invited to this realm, someone could quite easily have summoned them (perhaps unwittingly) with a Ouija Board. Low entities (entities on a low vibrational level) are attracted to portals created by humans using Ouija Boards.

Their task, I think, is to use their power to get someone to grant access (to a home or a car, for example), with blatant lies apparently permitted to convince the person (demons apparently lie anyway, so this wouldn't take away from the test) and cause their death.

Once they have done this (or done this enough times), they may be "promoted" to more powerful demons.

http://web.archive.org/web/2005021318181…

As for this being ordinary human kids messing about, that doesn't explain the sense of dread. Such feelings are generally spiritual (or spiritual, in a sense - not human paranoia) and when people heed them, the feelings save lives.

Shaun Wingle- I have to disagree with your summation of the effect of some drugs on pupil size. LSD will cause a person's pupils to expand until very little color shows around the edge. The whites
are unaffected. Opiates will cause eyes to become glassy, but have little effect on pupil size. I speak from experience. In my younger days I did LSD of all kinds like it was going out of style- blotter, sunshine, sugar cubes, microdots etc... For more than a decade now I've been taking morphine for chronic pain, so I'm familiar with the effects of it too. I think that sometimes texts overstate the effects or state the extreme effects a drug may have, instead of the norms. Much of what I've seen in print about LSD has been wrong or sometimes outright falsehoods, meant to instill fear instead of knowledge. I took 2,000-3,000 hits of LSD total and never experienced a single 'bad trip'. Unfortunately, I now seem also to be immune to it's pleasures.
As far as these Black Eyed Kids are concerned, just thinking about them gives my heebie-jeebies a case of the squealing fantods. The whole "permission to enter" thing reeks of vampire and the only way they'd get into my place would be with a promise to make me a vampire too, and even then I'd keep a jug of holy water handy. Lets face it, BEKs are innately creepy, a perversion of childhood innocence- but right in line with the Bad Seed or the L'il Bastard.

I have just started reading up on BEKs. I find it interesting how people come up with so many different excuses as to why they could be fake. I think they are real, but I also think that the journalist who reported the first encounter may have exaggerated quite a bit. In all other encounters, it was when the people were all alone and nobody was around to witness it. With his encounter, there were too many details that didn't make sense. If he was outside of a movie theater, there should've been at least 3 or 4 other people in the parking lot. After all, didn't he say he had just finished watching a movie? Surely he wasn't the only one.

Hei. I was reading up on the black eyed kids and I stumbled over a blog which has two posts, which are not about them, but mention black eyed children.

This blog is rather odd, makes you shiver and wonder, if you have the time to read it all.

Anyway, the first reference to the black eyed children is in a post named “old town” – which is about the town of “Sighisoara”, where Dracula was born. (Vlad the Impaler). Apparently there’s strong evidence in that part of the world, in old manuscripts, of a tale which spans over 2000 years, a tale that relates of how the town was built. It all comes down to the fact that apparently a black eyed child ordered the town to be built in that exact spot.

You really have to read the whole post to understand, otherwise you will think it’s just weird talk.

The other post which relate the appearance of two black eyed children, aged around 16, is called “no good deed goes unpunished” – and talks about how two black eyed children kissed a 1 year old boy and apparently healed him from leukemia. They also put a necklace around his neck.

Again, you have to read the whole post, or the whole blog, to understand. The blog is not about black eyed kids, but I found references of them inside it and I feel that they are somehow players in a much bigger scheme that we could fathom.

Check it out.

Oh, this is the link to the first post http://onvampires.wordpress.com/2012/02/06/old-tow

If you feel like reading the whole blog, make sure you read the “about me” or “who I am” page and the very first post. Won’t make any sense if you don’t.

I just thought to share this with you because I’m as interested in black eyed children as you are.
